Challenge to choose

By Jean Lung

When was the last time that you "let your hair down" on the magnificent white beaches of our lovely country? It might have been as recent as a few weeks ago; or maybe you have the privilege to reside in a delightful coastal town?

People who know me well will be quick to tell that almost nothing can keep me from the beach… and out of the water! The reason? I was born and bred in Gauteng. Yes, I am one of those "silly" people from the Highveld who insists on lying on the beach while the wind blows at full speed.

One of my favourite memories as a little girl is how I cautiously tested the cold sea water with my big toe, only to throw myself into the waves (without thinking) shortly thereafter.

We many times test the New Year cautiously and make a few plans. Shortly thereafter we plunge ourselves from head to toe into sometimes "turbulent waters", only to be swept away.

My heart's desire for you is that 2014 will be a year in which you will make wise decisions that will bring peace and prosperity to you and your house without being swept away by the pace that the new start brings. God has promised us that He has good plans for us: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jer. 29:11 NIV)

May we take up the CHALLENGE TO CHOOSE his Word and ways and run according to his pace from day one.
