God gave us the great ability and power to choose. These choices enable us to take charge of our lives. The realisation that we need to live with the consequences of our decisions can make one feel quite uneasy.
My children often pull my leg about "preaching" to them about the consequences of their own actions. These little "fatherly" sermons prove to be a source of great amusement but the fact of the matter is that a child can only learn to take responsibility by making choices and experiencing the consequences, thereof, first hand. It is only natural for loving parents to try to protect their children against possibly detrimental decisions, but we are but mere flesh and do not always succeed in doing so.
Similar to our own dads, our Father also wants to be intimately involved with us when we make decisions. It is His desire to protect us against the sometimes foolish decisions we make.
The book of Deuteronomy describes his caring involvement with us, when He says: "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Deut. 30:19-20 NIV).
May we choose wisely in order to glorify Him and so that our descendants may live a blessed life.
