What is true peace?
Written by Han on 17 November 2024
The world often views peace as freedom from trouble or the absence of worry. However, Jesus offers a deeper, lasting peace that transcends circumstances. In John 14:27, He contrasts the fleeting peace of the world with the enduring peace He gives.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Peace Amid the Storm
True peace is not the absence of hardship but the presence of God in our lives. Jesus assures us that His peace enables us to remain calm and steadfast even in the face of trials, as seen in His promise: “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The peace Jesus gives is anchored in the knowledge of His ultimate victory. By going to the Father and conquering sin and death, He secures an eternal hope for His followers. This confidence enables us to trust Him, even when life feels uncertain.
How to Experience Christ’s Peace
Christ’s peace grows in us when we:
- Surrender our anxieties to God through prayer.
- Meditate on His Word and promises.
- Walk in obedience to His commands, knowing His ways lead to life.
Calm Within the Chaos
Jesus reminds us that true peace is not the absence of storms but His presence within them. It is a quiet assurance that He is in control, working all things for our good (Romans 8:28).
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
True peace is a gift from Jesus, unshaken by the circumstances around us. It is a calm confidence in God’s sovereignty, enabling us to face life with faith and hope, knowing He is with us every step.
